PhD Mentoring Program Femmes & Sciences

Supporting PhD candidates in their career development

Presentation

Since 2017, we have been offering around thirty students (with a preference for female doctoral students) from several doctoral schools, ideally in their first or second year of doctoral studies, the opportunity to take part in a mentoring programme as part of the PhD programme run by the Centre for Integrative Biology and the Femmes & Sciences association. The aim of this programme, coordinated by Julie Batut, is to support PhD students and encourage them to build their career plans, by reflecting on the possibilities and choices open to them with the help of experienced and trusted mentors. This scheme enables a mentor/doctoral volunteer pairing, with no hierarchical link, to become part of a process of mutual enrichment and to share their knowledge, experience, support and encouragement.

The proposed module (27 hours) is designed to contribute to the success of the doctoral student’s project by offering:

1. Regular one-to-one exchanges with their mentor.

2. Themed discussion circles and group training workshops to respond to their needs and questions.

3. Seminars and testimonials to present, among other things, various careers and career paths linked to scientific research in the academic and private sectors.
