Cohesin, a member of the Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes (SMC) protein family, not only provides sister chromatid cohesion but also forms DNA loops, organizing the chromosomes in 3D.
In the team, we are studying both the physical nature of interactions between cohesin and DNA and regulations determining chromatin loops.
Our team also studies how RNA polymerases and cohesin regulate transcription and genome organization.
