Jean-Yves Bouet trained in Microbiology at the University of La Rochelle and in Molecular Genetics at the University of Toulouse, France. He earned his Ph.D. (1992–1996) at the University of Toulouse, studying bacterial genome organization using Escherichia coli as a model and T4 bacteriophage as a tool to disrupt the nucleoid.
To further explore bacterial chromosome organization and segregation, he joined Dr. B.E. Funnell’s lab at the University of Toronto (1996–1999), where he investigated the molecular mechanisms of the P1 prophage partition system and gained expertise in protein biochemistry.
In 2000, Jean-Yves joined the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) to study the molecular mechanisms of bacterial chromosome segregation. He developed cell biology approaches along with molecular genetics and protein biochemistry. He became a team leader at the LMGM (Molecular Genetics and Microbiology Laboratory, Toulouse) in 2011, continuing his research in this field.
Since 2021, he has co-led the “Bacterial Genome Dynamics” team at the CBI (Centre de Biologie Intégrative, Toulouse), focusing on bacterial chromosome segregation and genome organization.
