LMGM

Laboratory of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics

Presentation

The LMGM investigates fundamental processes relating to bacterial biology and physiology, including the functioning of specific organelles, at different scales, using a wide range of integrative approaches. Our research focuses on the organisation, maintenance, plasticity, evolution and expression of microbial genomes.

We explore key topics in the biology of bacterial organisms, such as:
– Genome dynamics, maintenance and evolution
– Gene and protein regulatory networks
– Structural organisation and dynamics of the cell
– Cellular heterogeneity and collective behaviour

Our research ranges from single molecules to living bacterial cells and their interactions with the environment. It is based on molecular genetics, biochemistry, genomics and bioinformatics. The bacteria we study are interesting model organisms both for fundamental research and for applications in biotechnology, the food industry and health.

Patrice POLARD, Director

Patrice Polard obtained a PhD in microbiology in 1993 and joined the CNRS in 1994 as a research fellow at the Laboratoire de Microbiologie et Génétique Moléculaires (LMGM). Patrice Polard (lien vers personal page ‘under construction’) is currently Director of Research at CNRS and heads the “Pneumococcal Competence and Transformation” team (lien vers team page) in the LMGM.

Since 2014, he has been Director of LMGM within the Centre for Integrative Biology (CBI).

Cécile ALBENNE, Deputy director

After initial training in Biological Engineering at INSA and earning a PhD in Enzyme Engineering at the Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (TBI) in 2002, Cécile Albenne was appointed Associate Professor in Biochemistry at the Université Toulouse III-Paul Sabatier (UT3) in 2005.

Currently, Cécile Albenne (lien vers personal page) is developing her research projects within the team “The Mycoplasma Metalloproteome” headed by Hugo Lebrette at LMGM (lien vers team page).

Since 2021, Cécile Albenne has been Deputy Director of LMGM, within the CBI.
