Après une thèse en biochimie portant sur l’activité d’une génotoxine bactérienne (Université de Toulouse, supervision Gladys Mirey et Julien Vignard), j’ai effectué un séjour post-doctoral de 4,5 ans dans le laboratoire de Stineke van Houte et Edze Westra (Université d’Exeter, Royaume-Uni) où j’ai travaillé sur l’écologie et l’évolution des interactions bactériophages-bactéries. Je me suis en particulier intéressé au coûts et bénéfices évolutifs de stratégies bactériennes d’échappement aux phages ainsi qu’à l’impact des conditions environnementales sur la mise en place de défense bactériennes anti-phages et des contre-défenses phagiques.
After a PhD in Biochemistry on the activities of a bacterial genotoxin (Université de Toulouse, supervised by Drs Mirey and Vignard), I spent 4,5 years as a postdoc in the lab of Profs. van Houte and Westra (University of Exeter, UK) where I worked on the ecology and evolution of phage-bacteria interactions. My main objective was to determine the evolutive costs and benefits of various bacterial escape strategies against phages, as well as characterize the impact of environmental conditions on the establishment of bacterial anti-phage defense systems and phage counter-defenses.
