Virtual Reality (VR) is an illusion where individuals can move and interact with a computer-generated world. The creation of complex and dynamic environments is simplified so the perceptual system of each individual can be finely tuned. VR appears as a tool of choice for the future of behavioral studies in humans and animals. Using the versatility of those techniques and theoretical models, I propose a general framework to study perceptual interactions. First, I will discuss the role of minimal models in our understanding of behavior and representation. Then I will show how to harness the potential of VR for the design of open automated experimental systems.
