Behavioural variability, brain plasticity and division of labour in social insects

The emergence of sociality is a major evolutionary transition. The most complex forms of social life are found in eusocial species where queens and workers commit to distinct castes for life. Combining our expertise in neurobiology and ethology from an evolutionary perspective, we are developing comparative approaches to study the link between brain plasticity and behavioural flexibility in various solitary and social bee species.
