Title : Phenotypic plasticity and physiological determinants of sociality in spiders
14:00
IBCG | Conference room (100 pers.)

Abstract :
Animal societies constitutes one of the most remarkable phenomenons among living organisms. Understanding the interactions shaping group cohesion is crucial for understanding the complex mechanisms underlying the emergence of sociality. The plasticity and diversity of social behaviors in spiders allowed us to determine the influence of communication signals on the the nature of the social interactions in the solitary spider Agelena labyrinthica. In three chapters, we expose a comprehensive study combining physiology, chemistry and behavior that provides important insights for the comprehension of the interaction between the emission, perception and interpretation of the means of communication involved in the expression of social interactions. We discuss these results in the general framework of social transitions and develop an argumentation supporting an alternative pathway toward sociality.
