Congratulations to Antoine Wystrach on his ERC consolidator funding!

Antoine Wystrach (CRCA-CBI) has been awarded an ERC Consolidator grant to launch his research project on ant navigation.

What distinguishes organisms from machines is their resilience, meaning their ability to recover automatically from failure. Unlike machines, organisms are self-developing systems that change over time, like ‘a melody that sings itself’. The plastic mechanisms that enable the self-development and resilience of animals and humans are barely known. However, understanding them would profoundly impact on the way we apprehend brains, behaviours and their evolution.

With the RESILI-ANT project (lasting 5 years), Antoine Wystrach proposes to answer this question by drawing inspiration from the astonishing ability of solitary foraging ants to find their way in complex environments.

The ERC project starting EMERGI-ANT inspired the new conceptual approach proposed in RESILI-ANT, providing preliminary results and virtual reality and monitoring tools that will facilitate its implementation.
