The blob in space and in the classroom: research and education hand in hand

On board the International Space Station, astronaut Thomas Pesquet will conduct two experiments with the slime mold Physarum polycephalum in early October as part of the "Raiseyourblob" operation devised by the CNES and the ethologist Audrey Dussutour (CRCA) with the help of the CNRS. This operation will allow at least 4500 classes of primary, secondary or high school level to replicate the protocols on earth. This project aims at sparking an interest in science, scientific research, and scientific career paths. As second citizen science project coordinated by the CNRS and opened to anybody, will be launched in 2022 to study the impact of climate change on slime molds.
